3. Is your website secure?

We keep all your information private and secure. All orders are placed through our secure server. We do not supply your information to any third parties. For more information regarding the security of our website see our "Privacy Policy" section.

4. Is there any sales tax?

There is no sales tax on tea. Teaware items are subject to sales tax for the residents of New York only.

5. What is your shipping policy?

We ship all orders less than 2 lbs. Priority Mail via the United States Postal Service (www.usps.com) and over 2 lbs. ground via the United Parcel Service (www.ups.com). Standard shipping time within the continental United States is 2-3 business days. Rates include shipping, handling and delivery confirmation. Overnight, second-day, and international shipping is available for an additional charge.

6. How does free shipping work?

Orders of $60 or more addressed to a physical location (sorry, no PO Boxes) within the contiguous United States qualify for free shipping via USPS Priority Mail or UPS ground. However, if your zip code is classified as rural, a $2 surcharge will apply.

7. How do I make a good cup of tea?

Black Teas
Prepare with boiling water, and allow the tea leaves to steep for five minutes. Recommended ratio is one teaspoon of leaves per cup of water.

Green Teas
Prepare with water that is cooler-than-boiling (158F -176F) and allow the tea leaves to steep for three minutes. Recommended ratio is one teaspoon per cup of water.

White Teas
Prepare with water that is cooler-than-boiling (158F -176F) and allow the tea leaves to steep for three minutes. Recommended ratio is two teaspoon per cup of water.

Oolong Teas
Dark oolong teas taste best when prepared with boiling water, and allow the tea leaves to steep for seven minutes. Recommended ratio is two teaspoon of leaves per cup of water.

Lighter oolong teas taste best when prepared with water that is cooler-than-boiling (180F) and allow the tea leaves to steep for three to five minutes. Recommended ratio is one teaspoon per cup of water.

Herbal and Rooibos Teas
Prepare with boiling water, and allow the tea leaves (or fruits) to steep for up to seven minutes. Recommended ratio is one teaspoon of leaves (or fruits) per cup of water.

Please remember not to over-steep your tea, or your tea will taste bitter!

8. How do I make iced tea?

Brew double the amount of tea normally used and brew as usual in a teapot. Strain, sweeten to taste and chill in the refrigerator. Serve over ice with a few bruised mint leaves or borage flowers and a slice lemon or orange for garnish.

9. Should I use tap water, distilled water, bottled or filtered water when brewing tea?

The best type of water to use when brewing tea is filtered or bottled water (not distilled water) that is free of chemicals and chlorine. If that isn't available and you are using tap water, run your faucet for around ten seconds and until the tap water is cold before filling your teakettle. Avoid hard water, as the high percentage of minerals can cause your tea to taste "off".

10. Are the values for the price tea per cup accurate?

All the values of the price per cup are approximate. These values will vary depending on the quantity of the tea used to brew a cup of tea.

11. What is difference between the loose teas sold on your website compared to the tea sold in the store?

SoFo Tea teas are made from the highest quality tea leaves. Most store brands use bottom of the barrel tea in their tea bags. The vast majority of tea bags made around the world use paper as a filter and tea dust. Tea dust is the tiny leaf particles that break off when tea leaves are processed.

13. How should I store the tea I buy from SoFo Tea?

Our tea comes in a heat-sealed polyvinyl packaging, which is re-sealable after the package has been opened. This packaging is adequate for storing your tea or you may store the tea in your own airtight storage container. Please remember to store your tea in a cool, dark, dry place, and away from any strong odors to preserve their freshness. Most teas stored properly will remain fresh for a year or more.

14. What is your Return Policy?

SoFo Tea will gladly accept back any item in un-used and un-opened condition that was purchased within 30 days of receipt. We will also cover the cost of return shipping for any orders which are incorrect or damaged. We can not cover the cost of return shipping for items that are simply unwanted. To return an item within 30 days of purchase, simply indicate the reason for your return on your invoice, include it with your return and wrap the package securely. If you do not have your invoice copy, please indicate your name, address, order number and reason for the return on a separate piece of paper.
